One thing is certain: P-Pop group Alamat has just dropped their debut album with a bang. As of this writing, Pasulong is currently at the top of the iTunes Charts for OPM albums. With six fresh tracks, it's safe to say that Alamat is soaring high with its music. The EP mixes new songs with familiar ones and features previously-released singles, 'ILY ILY' and 'Say U Love Me' alongside new tracks, 'Maharani,' 'Gayuma' and 'Hala.' Pasulong is highlighted by its lead single, dance track 'Aswang,' which cleverly fuses an electronic dance beat with R&B rhythms and motifs.
We got to learn more about Alamat and their new EP from their recent interview on CNN Philippines, and we're grateful that each member was able to speak during the interview. Each of the boys gave their takes and insights into their latest single and first EP, and it's worth a read.
Creative Directions & Collabs
Bisaya member Alas revealed how they work together to write parts of their songs and brainstorm their next direction. It's a great reminder of how the creativity (that you know we crave) makes ALAMAT's position in P-Pop unique. Coupled with a healthy partnership with Creative Director Jason Paul Laxamana, the group is headed in its own direction, brought along by the uniqueness of different languages and an outstanding performance level. It's an essential part of their mission, according to Jao, to share their Filipino culture and traditions. Pasulong, he says, is a product of their creative efforts to translate tradition into sound. Everything about the album seems to have been a risk for the young group. The music of Pasulong and the single 'Aswang' are inspired by Filipino beliefs, something R-ji said was a chance they had to take for their new song.

ALAMAT's co-leader, Mo, also spilled their collaboration wishlist, citing OPM artists, especially fellow P-Pop groups. Coming off a collaboration with BINI for Coke Studios, their next dream collaboration is with their Kuyas (big brothers) SB19. Now, that is something we've been asking for since they shared the stage in 2021 for PhilKorFest, and we can't wait to see it happen. ALAMAT has had a healthy relationship with SB19 since that last meeting. According to Tomas, the members of SB19 encouraged him and his comembers not to give up since they will have their own place on the international stage.
Ready for the World
Since their start as a multilingual group dedicated to sharing Filipino culture, it's obvious their time is coming.
It was second co-leader Taneo who revealed how it took about a year for them to finish the EP. That's no small feat when you consider the huge trials the group has overcome in the last 8 months alone. It goes to show the boys of ALAMAT are forging their own way in the P-Pop world. Since their start as a multilingual group dedicated to sharing Filipino culture, it's obvious their time is coming. Today, they hold a place as one of the most successful and popular P-Pop groups in their home country. It won't be long before they go truly global with their original music. Fly high, Phoenixes!
