SB19 is Set to Win the Heart of the Nation

Updated: Sep 22, 2022

There is nothing the Philippines like better than a beauty queen, and there’s none more iconic than the Binibining Pilipinas Pageant to drive that point home. Needless to say, we (and all A’tin) were more than a bit excited when it was announced that the Kings of P-Pop would be serenading the queens on the 2022 Binibining Pilipinas Finals Night. SB19 has worked with Thyro Alfaro to rework the classic theme and bring it into the new decade. It’s the first time Bb. Pilipinas has embraced P-Pop as a genre, and there is no better vanguard for the genre than SB19.

Updating a Classic

[it’s] bringing the song firmly into the realm of P-Pop

The theme was originally written by the legendary composer Dero “Nonong” Pedero in 1999. It was last given a new sound by Ballad King Martin Nievera in 2013 for Binibining Pilipinas’ 50th Year. Now, with SB19 being the first P-Pop group to freshen up the tune, it’s safe to say the theme has come a long way from the original performed by APO Hiking Society. The biggest change is probably the added rap lines (in SB19’s signature style). It gives the classic sung parts their own individual interpretation, bringing the song firmly into the realm of P-Pop.

Artists and Best Friends

They wink at the camera, dance, tease each other, and vibe with the music

The accompanying studio music video dropped on July 15th, and it’s just what A’tin want to see. The video’s centered around footage of the boys recording ‘Win Your Heart’ in the studio, which is a great reminder of how SB19 has come so far. Not only are they monsters on stage, but they are also artists who take their music (and the recording of it) seriously. The rest of the time, they are silly boys who jump around and cheer for one another. They wink at the camera, dance, tease each other, and vibe with the music. It’s a studio music video, so of course, it’s about the music, but it’s also about the boys having fun and enjoying being artists. That is something we will never get tired of seeing.
